Ich bin seit 01. März 2019 Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Wirtschaftsgeographie am Geographischen Institut der Universität Bayreuth. Zuvor war ich als Doc und Post-Doc an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt tätig.

Mein Forschungsinteresse gilt einer gesellschaftstheoretisch informierten wirtschaftsgeographischen Globalisierungs- und Entwicklungsforschung, die sich vor allem auf Einsichten der heterodoxen Ökonomik, Politischen Ökologie und post- und dekolonialer Arbeiten stützt. Mein übergeordnetes Forschungsanliegen ist es, die Ökonomie in Zeiten scheinbar entgrenzter ökonomischer Beziehungen zu rematerialisieren und damit auch für politische Debatten um die nachhaltige Ausgestaltung des Gesellschafts-Ökonomie-Natur-Nexus in räumlicher Perspektive zu öffnen.

Meine gegenwärtige Forschung zu den Themen Politische Ökonomie und Ökologie globaler Lieferketten, die Finanzialisierung von Land und Landwirtschaft, die digitale Transformation von Arbeit und zu „African Futures“ spiegeln diese Orientierung wider und ergänzen bestehende Schwerpunkte des Bayreuther Geographischen Instituts. Ich besitze sowohl im Globalen Süden (West- und Ostafrika) als auch im Globalen Norden (Deutschland, Neuseeland) Forschungserfahrung und kultiviere eine global-relationale Perspektive auf geographisch ungleiche Entwicklungsprozesse.

Zudem bin ich Teil des Advisory Board von Critical African Studies, Global Africa, Environment and Planning A, Finance and Space und Agro-Food Studies.
